This equipment is essential for anyone planning winter hikes in the higher parts of the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains). Even on beautiful sunny days, harsh conditions and icy trails on Równia pod Śnieżką often make the route impassable in hiking boots alone. Despite good fitness and fine weather, the summit of Śnieżka, the highest peak in the Karkonosze, can be out of reach because of the icy section of the ascent. Mountain weather changes frequently, especially in winter. Snowfall, rain, temperature swings and strong winds all make walking on icy trails difficult. That's why proper preparation, the right clothing and extra equipment to support your climb are so important. The ideal way to stay safe on a challenging mountain route is to rent crampons and trekking poles from us. Thanks to our partnership with Salewa and Komperdell, we offer top-quality equipment at reasonable prices. The main base of KARPACZ Ski & Snowboard School, where you can pick up crampons and trekking poles, is located at the start of the black, yellow and green trails (routes toward Biały Jar, Równia pod Śnieżką, Strzecha Akademicka and Polana). The red trail toward Kocioł Łomniczki also begins nearby. We recommend calling ahead to check equipment availability before renting.
